DKFM The buzzing in your ears is completely natural.
We’d always understood Austin’s Blushing had all the elements necessary to break through: songwriting, performance, personality. From SXSW showcases, to their star turn at this year’s DreamGaze ATX, it was simply understood that Blushing is poised to advance to top-tier status in the genre. If you’re only just now waking up from a year-long nap, let us catch you up.
Blushing is comprised of two tightly-knit husband and wife teams that speak each others’ musical language. Blushing launched in the summer of 2015 after vocalist and guitarist Michelle Soto shared her songs with long-time friend and classically trained vocalist Christina Carmona. Picking up the bass, Carmona helped to fully flesh out tracks, and the two incorporated their husbands Jake Soto on drums and Noe Carmona on lead guitar. With unwavering passion evident in both their recordings and their live performances, Blushing’s strengths shine through both individually and as a cohesive whole. Drawing on a multitude of diverse influences, Blushing arrives somewhere between the rough-edged and atmospheric tones of Lush and the sweet clarity of The Sundays. Their debut EP “Tether” was self-released in 2017, followed by their EP “Weak” on Austin Town Hall Records in January of 2018. Gaining infectious momentum, Blushing have since been asked to play Athens Pop Fest and have shared stages with the likes of La Luz, Broncho, The Veldt, Sunflower Bean and Snail Mail.
Fast forward to… well, right now, and proof arrives that these high expectations were well warranted. With their upcoming single, “The Truth”, the Blushing crew has teamed with Elliott Frazier (Ringo Deathstarr) for recording/mixing/production duties, and signed with The Nothing Song Records for this release. The single is unleashed into the world 26 October, on 7″ colored vinyl and digital formats. And the attention to detail shows through. With gorgeous harmonies, confident hooks and assured production, Blushing have truly leveled up.
Press play, and we’ll dish some more well-earned hyperbole (and release details) below.
The double A-side single comes out Friday, October 26, and both “The Truth” and “Sunshine” showcase an evolution in the band’s expansive, cascading sound. Both tracks are jewels, there’s no slack in this release. And we’re told this is only the teaser, as a full album is slated for release in early 2019. If these singles are any indication, you can expect this talented crew to dominate “Album of the Year” chatter upon release. And we’re not kidding. We wouldn’t kid about such things.
Follow Blushing’s inevitable world takeover via their website, and their social channels: Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and (of course) Bandcamp.

Brilliant and beautiful, as usual. I hear an underlying Lush influence all over this but it’s also a sound that is completely innovative and unique to Blushing ❤️???So much love for you and what you do!

i’ve always been fond of Shoegazer-related music. Catherine Wheel, My Bloody Valentine, bits of Smashing Pumpkins, Dinosaur Jr, & now Blushing too much. 2000’s Guitar based pop/rock needs a different audience. i think it can endure like it did in the 90’s. i wish shoegaze well.
