Caroline Loveglow – Patience Etc…

Can’t tell you much about Caroline Loveglow. Los Angeles-based, signed to George Clanton and Negative Gemini’s 100% Electronica label specializing in chill and vaporwave releases, and due to land at Austin’s esteemed Levitation Festival on 29 October. So what’s all this buzz?

Shades of Cocteau Twins are the obvious touchstone here, but there’s so much more to it than that. Out-of-the box thinking here, but this seems to have sprung from the Australia/New Zealand school of dream pop. If you hear a little Miniatures/T. G. Shand, or Hatchie, or Japanese Heart Software, that seems to be the sweet spot, the cornerstone. Understanding both songwriting and arrangement, allowing electronic waves to crash over the choruses, but still allowing guitar accents to carry the backing beat, sugary vocal riding atop the current. Some of the more critically lazy may pass this off as Cocteau Twins-lite, but this has a direct sonic heritage, along with masterful arrangement and production, making this a spectacular summer single. It is alleged there will be a full LP this fall, COVID willing. If there’s more where this came from, if it allows hints of guitar along with the synth wash, we’re here for it. All day. And twice on Sunday.

As usual, we’d encourage you to purchase the single and follow on Bandcamp. But “Patience Etc…” is available on Apple Music and Spotify, and you can follow Caroline Loveglow official channels on Instagram and Twitter. A most promising debut.
