Now in its second year, Houston’s Ethereal Fest launches this Saturday, January 19th, featuring a solid cast of Texas shoegaze and dream pop luminaries. Tickets for a nine-band bill are a bargain at $10 presale, $12 at door. With known names (well, known to our listeners anyway) like Glare, Angel Aura, Dottie, Processions, Daze, Fun With Ether and Astragal, it’s a reverb-laden bonanza of sound and texture. We chatted up Wendolyne Barrios of Angel Aura, one of the co-founders of Ethereal Fest, to get the scoop on this year’s festivities.

DKFM: When did this start? What was the genesis of Ethereal Fest?

Wendolyne: October 2017, sitting on a couch at a local doom fest. Nick and I were so inspired by our friend, Tobin, and the fest he put on to support bands on a much more local level. So we simply decided to do our own version of it! This is where Ethereal Fest was co-founded.

DKFM: Talk a little bit about the lineup for this year’s festivities.

Wendolyne: Pipe Dream from Houston will be kicking things off! Followed by, Saint Rosa, Fun With Ether, DAZE, Processions, dottie, GLARE, Angel Aura, and Astragal will be headlining our fest 🙂

DKFM: Second year, second great lineup. Future plans? Will Ethereal Fest be a banner event going forward?

Wendolyne: We want Ethereal Fest to be a second home to Texas shoegaze and dreampop bands. We believe they all deserve to be recognized for the music they create and we hope to reach as many people as possible.

More info on lineups, logistics and schedule can be accessed at the Ethereal Fest Facebook event page, and discounted presale tickets can be purchased on Eventbrite.

I cannot not wait to go. I was so bummed I missed it last year due to being in Long Beach. It’s going to be so much fun! Me and Dani will be representing DKFM!
