DKFM The buzzing in your ears is completely natural.
Regular listeners of DKFM are well aware of Denton dreampop darlings Rei Clone, who’ve been making a joyful noise since 2015. Their heaviest rotation single, “Wave“, broke our airwaves with a quickness, solidifying this band in our permanent rotation, and in our listeners’ hearts. It’s a heavy, fuzzy, cavernous sound, but buried underneath a wheelbarrowful of sugar. Zach Palmer and company have carved out a special place in the burgeoning Texas shoegaze scene, and with each release, the legend grows just a little bit more. Their latest album, Greetings From Somewhere, was also their most successful to date. Praised by both critics and fans, it’s the sound of a band coming into their own.
Now, two days before their star turn at Star Shine Fest, they have a new song and video to wake a weary nation. “Heaven is Eternity” is the new single from Rei Clone, available on Bandcamp, simultaneously on YouTube, with a creative video representation. Press play, we’ll fill in some detail below.
We asked Zach Palmer to fill in some detail about what’s upcoming. “We’re working on a new release. We’re not sure what it will be: EP, split, second album…but we have a lot of material waiting in the wings. Heaven Is Eternity was like the gateway to all of this new material. It was the first thing we worked on with our new drummer, Simon. He really killed it on this track. Dude is very talented.”
So how did the video happen? Palmer explains: “It all came together really well. It features all local musicians from DFW, which was actually more of an accident than intentional. We had a ton of fun shooting. It’s a fairly simple idea but I think it works well for the song. It’s literally just people cuddling and hanging out in bed but they’re all real couples so it feels really authentic. Simon actually directed and edited the video too and I know he put a lot of hours in to get this thing put together. This is a nice present from us to our fans and we hope everyone gains something from it.”
The song, and the video, a special treat for fans, and another reminder to catch the festival they put together. Star Shine Fest was Palmer’s brainchild, and looks to be the last epic event on this year’s calendar. Miss at your peril.
