Last year I met an amazing new artist out of Tel Aviv, Israel, named Lital Hagayan. One year on and I’m proud to count her as a really good friend. I’ve played her previous singles ‘Eternity’ and ‘Like I Remember You’ on my Static Sounds Club radio show and feedback from the DKFM faithful was unanimous. Everyone wanted more.

The great news is, after a turbulent year for Hagayan, she has returned with both a new single and a debut album. The LP titled Singularity will be with us on 4 August 2023, but until then we have a brand new song to enjoy. It’s called ‘When Words Been Said’ and I asked Hagayan to tell us a bit about what this song means to her.

“The single talks about words that have been said to me while a very close person to me got mentally ill. Almost every verse has a parallel meaning, or double meaning as this person was like two people. In the night one person, in the morning another.

In those days I had faith that things would be healed, and that everything would get back into its place. But unfortunately, that’s not what happened.

Besides the deep meaning lyrics, the single has a dreamy, open wide sound, with wide panning and lots of guitars, reverb and vocal layers. There’s a nice combination between the synths and the guitars which sometimes play together and sometimes replace each other.

I’m very connected to this track. It’s like an amplitude which reflects my feelings in the situation I was in.

I remember when I used to listen to the mix versions, I got excited every time by this track, but it was like that with all the tracks lol.  I hope that more people will be able to connect to this track from their own place.”

The track opens gently with a lightly-plucked acoustic, as dreamy synth pads provide the atmosphere. Hagayan’s lush vocal reverberates over all. The song is incredibly dynamic with lots of changes in the arrangement as we go deeper. As a listener it really keeps you on your toes with its false stops, and when those drums kick in, wow! She has a real ear for a melody, you’ll be humming this one to yourself for days. As always, her lyrical style is very much heartfelt and worn on her sleeve. Honesty is her default setting, which is what makes her such a great songwriter (and friend).

To accompany the release is a stunning music video which we are proud to be premiering for you here on DKFM Shoegaze Radio. I asked the director, Ohad Elimelech, to tell us bit about the video.

“In the video Lital is lost in a big busy city, on the one hand running away and on the other – searching. Although it is a big and noisy city, there is always an atmosphere of silence and emptiness. Similar to a complex relationship where one side gets lost in attempts to communicate, and mostly feels lonely.”

You can grab the single ‘When Words Been Said’ from the Lital Hagayan Bandcamp page.

You can follow Lital Hagayan on Facebook, Instagram, YouTube and Bandcamp.
