A music nerd is just a nerd with earbuds. Having been fans and boosters of Toronto’s Iris since their first single “Fix Me” landed hard in our consciousness, we’ve been Iris nerds. Sure, there’s been a bump or two along the road for the Iris squad, but they were always about the songs. And you could count on them to create and polish compelling new tunes, and press them into your soul. As Iris has just completed a tour of the East Coast of the U.S. and Canada (and their most extensive ever), we wondered what was coming next.
This is that. We’re proud to present the premiere stream of the new single from Iris, “Away”.
Crashing waves of guitar and a wistful vocal line may bring to mind early Ride, but Iris evolves the sonic foundation, expansive and engaging. By the time “Away” reaches its conclusion, you’ve gone on a windswept journey, and you’re compelled to start again, just to retrace your steps. The guitar’s lead lines drift atop the churn, and when the vocal harmonies kick in, they’ve reached cruising altitude.
“Away” is available now, practically right this second, via the Iris Bandcamp site, and in cassette single from Acid Vision Records. It’s the next step in the evolution of Iris. If this is the sound of what’s to come, we’re certainly down for more.
