One of the standout releases of 2020 has been the second album (and third official release) from Postcards, The Good Soldier. A sublime journey through dream pop and sparkle, this LP’s release on January 3rd generated buzz and airplay from worldwide outlets, including Seattle’s KEXP, and has been an enduring favorite on our airwaves, with five key tracks graduating to long-term rotation within weeks. While this talented trio from Beirut, Lebanon has been honing their songcraft since 2012, it seems that the international community has finally taken notice. And it’s about time.

We’re thrilled to present the exclusive premiere of the second video from the new Postcards album. In a scene that appears inspired by the Twin Peaks Roadhouse performances, the languid music and smoky visuals seem perfectly melded to a Julee Cruise aesthetic that would make David Lynch proud.

Postcards describes the making of the video: “‘Dead End’ is a surreal description of a nightly walk, inspired by the band’s life in Beirut, where the normal often turns into the absurd, both emotionally and socio-politically. This duality takes different shapes in the video, their second collaboration with director Tariq Keblaoui.”

Hopelessness and alienation remain consistent themes in their music and visuals, as the scars of Lebanon’s turbulent past have left a mark on generations of citizens. Sorrow is a key aspect of their output, as well as a dissociation from society that permits cruelty and chaos. But in this self-isolation, the new album presents a more defiant tone: the status quo remains, but standing in opposition is both radical and comforting. Experience of alienation leads to a broader view, and a greater appreciation of our human community, always striving for the light in dark times. It’s a lived experience, not one that can be feigned as a creative aesthetic. The internal struggle is evident in every chord, every change in dynamics, making Postcards collective output more immediate and compelling by far than any current dream pop act.
