DKFM The buzzing in your ears is completely natural.
We’ve been spinning Toronto’s Shallow Waves since last year. Their engaging post-punk/fuzzy noise is a heady confection, reasonably comparable to a collision between early JAMC and Bloody Knives. Much like BK, compelling propulsion drives the songs, and carries you through the presentation. Gazey influences abound, but always grounded in that insistent, unyielding propulsion. Flourishes of psych, APTBS-inspired guitar chaos abound, and you feel like you’ve wandered into an epic soundscape not to be ignored.
We’re thrilled to present the world premiere visual accompanying the Shallow Waves single, “Voices in Discord”. Of the second single from the new EP, frontman Zaid Khan says, “‘Voices in Discord’ represents a point in my life where I was making erratic decisions. During this time, it felt very much like the outside world was becoming overwhelming, and hiding internally was only making things worse. The static, unsettling, and quick shots in the music video depict that feeling.”
Frenzied siren-like blasts are matched to visual digital noise and chaos, with VU meters struggling to keep up. A paranoid visual accompaniment for the frenzied sonics, to be sure.
Echoes of a Collapse will be available everywhere in the spring of 2021 through Green Witch Recordings. Follow Shallow Waves on Bandcamp, as well as Instagram and Facebook.
