DKFM The buzzing in your ears is completely natural.
You know it’s a good week, a good month even, when you can welcome back the stylized sonic churn of new Bloody Knives. Motorik beats and a wall of guitar noise guide you through this fever dream, a promise of great things to come. Dark shadows obscure the sonic haze, but the rhythm section cuts through like a jackhammer. In short, it’s vintage Bloody Knives, doing that thing they do so well, they really ought to patent it.
Sonic architect Preston Maddox describes “Deeper” thusly: “‘Deeper’ was the last song we finished for the record, going through three versions until we stripped it down to basics and it became what you are hearing now. The video is our attempt at a noir vibe, with us fading in and out while the music pushes forward.”
If you like your noisegaze with a slap upside the head, a shot of caffeine and pure adrenaline, Bloody Knives has the potion to soothe your soul. It’s a freeway drive with the top down, 95 in a 65, with a freezing rain pelting your exposed skin. Long may they reign.
Bloody Knives: a three piece band from Austin, TX, consisting of Preston Maddox (vocals/synths/guitar), Jake McCown (drums/synths/art) and Jim Moon (synths, sound manipulation). Founded in 2009, the group has a distinct hybrid sound that has been described as nightmare dream-rock and future punk, existing at a meeting point between industrial, shoegaze, post-punk, drum and bass, ambient, noise, and electronica. The video for Bloody Knives first single “Deeper” off of their next record Drowning in Light, which will be released in the fall of 2023 through Green Witch Recordings. The song premieres everywhere Friday, May 19. And we’re all the better for it.
Follow Bloody Knives on Twitter, Facebook, and Bandcamp. Keep eyes peeled on the Green Witch Recordings website for crucial release details. It’s gonna be a barnburner. And we’re here for it.
