New music we knew would be released today: Drab Majesty, ever creative, ever epic, always engaging. And Modern Mirror does not disappoint. Burning House: we knew that Anthropocene would drop today, and Burning House has developed a catalogue that’s always at least compelling, demanding your attention and assessment. We even knew Seattle’s somesurprises would launch preorder for the forthcoming self-titled debut LP, and that the first single would be a wild and wonderful ride through mood, energy and sound. What we didn’t know was that Fleeting Joys (pictured above) would drop their looooooong-awaited new album in the overnight hours, complete with attendant video. To say this is one we’d waited for is the understatement of the year. Residing confidently in the sonic sweet spot between Isn’t Anything and Loveless, this is Fleeting Joys doing what they do best: writing songs, building momentum, and releasing the tension. No mere MBV homage, Fleeting Joys follow a blueprint that so many try, and fail, to master. Let’s face it, if it was that easy to pull off, everyone would do it. And they cannot. Speeding Away to Someday arrives fully formed, brilliantly executed, but in a musical environment that no longer values artists and their art, instead preferring the streaming (“music rental”) path. No matter. They will be celebrated here, as this album deserves rapturous attention and praise. If we had better hyperbole, by God, we’d unleash it.

But there’s so much more to celebrate! We’re spinning up new music from Bullet Girls, airhockey, minihorse, Terry vs. Tori, Your Gaze, PINE, Mellowtone, Le 1991, FRITZ, Superdrone, The Darling Fire, gina a (of long-time rotation staple Sheer), Asimov, Sicayda, The Map Dept., Strangers In My House, Космос на потолке, Unkenny Valleys, Sea Salt, and SO much more. All weekend, all wonderful.

And all of that’s in addition to last weekend’s fresh injections, including Taffy, Lorelei, Blushing, Shoe Shine Six, Capitol, Hether, Palm Spiral, Long Beard, The Proctors, Fleur du Mal, Land Of OOO, Syrup Go On, Lake Pleasant, The Dead Sound, Split Moon, BLUNDERBUSST, Sun Colony, RAY, Tokyo Shoegazer, and YEN. So so much new newness.

New Tracks Weekend is begun 8 pm Eastern, 5 pm Pacific, and continues through Sunday at midnight Eastern, 9 Pacific. It’s the first weekend we’ll spin some of these tracks, and may be the last weekend for some others. Remember, you can listen listen via the station playlist page at DKFM, on Shoutcast, and on TuneIn Radio for iPhone/Android/Windows. Plus we have our branded apps for Apple’s iOS and Android: listeners can vote on all the new tracks, helping us determine what graduates to permanent rotation. Your voice counts! We’re live-scrobbling once again via last.fm. Now you’ll know what you heard, or catch up on what you missed. Keep up with our new Facebook group for some real-time discussions of what you’ve heard, and sound off!

And, as always, thanks for listening, and thank you for your support!
